Four-wheel drive
In 4WD, Cavenago challenges the traditional perception of objects through a sculpture that combines irony and conceptuality. This work, one of the smallest created by the artist, is composed of four Danish coins with a hole in the centre, which, through a simple gesture, are transformed into a "wallet sculpture", suggesting a profound questioning on the value and meaning of money in our daily lives.
The title itself, 4WD, is not accidental: it evokes the image of 'four-wheel drive', a reference to that propulsive force which, unfortunately, is often represented by money. Cavenago, manages to elevate the common object to a level of aesthetic and social reflection. The coins, symbols of exchange and wealth, intertwine in a silent dialogue that invites the viewer to explore the boundary between economy and art. The hole in the centre of each coin becomes a metaphor for interconnectedness: a point of access and passage, an invitation to consider the relationships that shape our existence.
The sculpture is not just an object, but a materialised thought, a moment of introspection that challenges contemporary consumerist logic. Through its reduced size, 4WD sums up a complexity of meanings, questioning our perception of value. Cavenago invites the audience to recognise how true wealth does not simply lie in possession, but in the ability to transform the ordinary into an aesthetic experience.
Cavenago succeeds in distilling in this sculpture a powerful and provocative reflection on our relationship with the economy, revealing how the link between art and everyday life can generate new meaning.
